This is a one day class split into two sections: 8-9 Hours Total
(Note: State Law REQUIRES that the class be at least 8 hours)
The Lecture: Students will be presented with a lecture on the laws of self defense in North Carolina as well as nomenclature of various handguns and the basics of marksmanship fundamentals. Students must complete a written examination with a score of at least 70%. The lecture will be presented at the Locust Police Department, located at 186 Ray Kennedy Dr, Locust, NC 28097.
The Range: Students must successfully qualify with a handgun on a thirty-round course of fire in order to receive a certificate of completion which is required to receive a Concealed Carry Handgun permit.
This class dispels common myths about a citizens right to use force against another person and is recommended for everyone, even if you don't own a handgun. A lot of people have been told incorrectly what their rights are when it comes to self defense and the defense of others and their property. This class will teach the student what is allowed by law and what is not.
While there is no age requirement for the class, in North Carolina, you must be 21 years old or older in order to apply for and receive a Concealed Carry Handgun permit.
Students must bring their own handguns to qualify with. You do not have to qualify with the same weapon you carry concealed. It must only meet the state's definition of a handgun.
Once the student receives his or her Concealed Carry Handgun permit, this permit may be used to purchase a handgun in lieu of a handgun purchase permit issued by the sheriff. This is a huge benefit if you go to gun shows or find a really good deal on a handgun somewhere and do not have a permit already issued to you.
